Heart Matter

Words from Heart Matter Fans:

Depth. Elegance. Heart. Integrity…

The meeting point of impeccable musicianship and catharsis…

Palpable on-stage chemistry…

Music that encapsulates life.

ABOUT THE BAND

Heart Matter makes direct eye contact with the human experience.

Their original music features a unique blend of jazz, singer-songwriter, and Brazilian styles, creating dynamic, soul-stirring performances. Vibraphone, electric bass, and drums form the sonic palette, setting a potent foundation for powerful, timeless vocals.

At once, the lyrics speak to processing loss and invoke the spirits of ancestors. Another song invites mindful appreciation for the dance of life. Or “Talk is Cheap,” for instance, directly confronts the sometimes shallow, transactional nature of small talk and asks for more.

Co-led by vocalist Amy D and vibraphonist Dillon Vado, the two composers share a kinship and collaborative spirit; weaving emotionally-chromatic journeys through song.

With improvisatory elements of jazz and carefully crafted arrangements, alongside intimate lyrics, Heart Matter is electric and honest; akin to the musical sensibilities of Joni Mitchell, Esperanza Spalding, The Bad Plus, Zero 7, and Steely Dan.

Audiences have been known to experience laughter, tears, and deep self-reflection at Heart Matter shows, often describing the music as…

“Fiery and exciting”
“Deep, elegant, honest”
“The meeting point of impeccable musicianship and catharsis”

More than anything, Heart Matter seeks to share transformative music with those who need to hear it, offering a remedy for the trance of today and a sacred space to feel it all.

“Drummer and vibraphonist Dillon Vado and vocalist Amy D have forged a songwriting partnership and launched a quartet with a singularly spacious sound.”

- Andrew Gilbert, The Oaklandside
